Staff Backend Engineer - Active Journey Alliance

Your responsibilities, Work on the architecture, design, and technical strategy for complex microservices systems, establishing patterns and best practices across multiple teams., Drive technical decision-making and architectural reviews, ensuring scalability, reliability, and maintainability of platform systems., Support engineers across the organization, fostering technical growth and promoting engineering excellence., Lead critical technical initiatives and cross-team projects, collaborating with technical leadership and cross-functional partners to align technical strategy with business objectives.

8+ years of backend engineering experience with deep expertise in microservices and distributed event-driven architectural patterns, Expert-level proficiency in Go, PHP, and/or JVM languages, Proven track record of leading large-scale technical projects and driving architectural decisions in complex distributed systems, Advanced experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and cloud-native architectures, including production operations at scale, Extensive experience building event-driven architectures using message bus technologies (Kafka, RabbitMQ, SQS/SNS, etc.), Deep expertise with database technologies (relational and NoSQL), including performance optimization, schema design, and operational best practices, Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers and drive technical standards across teams, Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with experience working with senior stakeholders and distributed teams

Optional, GraphQL experience for client-backend integration is a plus

About the project

As a Staff Backend Engineer, the role involves driving the technical vision and execution for the intelligent systems that power personalized experiences across global brands.

This position supports the platform layer that delivers tailored recommendations, dynamic content, and individualized customer journeys at scale.

As the menu prepares to scale by 10x and more, the focus will be to build the backbone for hyper-personalization, as well as design and deploy the personalization models and services that drive engagement across the global customer base.

Tasks include providing technical leadership, fostering engineering excellence, and collaborating with senior stakeholders to align technical strategy with business objectives.

At HelloTech, flexibility and cross-functional collaboration are core to how we work. While this role is aligned to a specific Alliance, strong candidates may also be considered for opportunities across different teams or projects.
