Senior Data Engineer – Industrial IoT Platform (Remote – Poland, Freelance)

About the Role

We are looking for a skilled Senior Data Engineer to join a growing team on a freelance/contract basis, working on an industrial IoT platform. This is an ongoing opportunity to contribute to a live, scalable digital product in the industrial automation sector. The role involves designing, building, and maintaining robust data solutions to support analytics, operations, and predictive use cases.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain data pipelines and solutions across the platform.
• Create and optimize data models for analytical, operational, and predictive purposes.
• Collaborate with product owners, developers, and other stakeholders to translate business needs into technical solutions.
• Participate in architectural decisions regarding data and infrastructure.
• Ensure reliability, maintainability, and quality through automation and CI/CD practices.
• Analyze data to extract insights and support business-driven decisions.

Required Skills & Experience

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Engineering, Telecommunications, Mathematics, Physics, or a related technical field.
• 5+ years of experience in data engineering, preferably working on platform-level solutions rather than individual projects.
• Strong proficiency in SQL, including experience with PostgreSQL and SQL Server (time-series data is a plus).
• Experience with Kubernetes and deploying data services in a containerized environment.
• Familiarity with Terraform and infrastructure as code practices.
• Experience with ETL frameworks, both on-premises (Node-RED, Apache NiFi) and cloud-based (Databricks preferred).
• Strong command of English (spoken and written).
• Problem-solving mindset and ability to work collaboratively in a team, asking the right questions and proposing solutions.

Desirable Skills

• Knowledge of IoT platforms and device telemetry (Azure IoT Hub or similar).
• Experience with industrial protocols like MQTT or OPC-UA.
• Experience with analytics and visualization tools such as Python, R, or Grafana.
• Background in industrial automation, smart factory, or digital manufacturing environments.
• Experience working in Agile/Scrum teams.
